Buying guide: Area & Site Lighting

The three decisions are distribution, mounting and control. Type II, III, IV and V distributions throw light at different shapes; a Type V for a parking field is wrong for a walkway, and a Type II aimed at a building face wastes half its output. Mounting determines everything downstream: a slip fitter for a round pole, an adjustable arm for a wall, a tenon adapter for an existing bracket. And a site fixture with a photocell and 0-10V dimming can be scheduled, while one without cannot.

This group includes shoebox and area lights, high-mast fixtures, post-top and decorative area luminaires, and pole-mount accessories. Backlight control and BUG rating are listed where the manufacturer publishes them, which matters for municipal and IDA-sensitive projects.
