Buying guide: Controls & Devices

Compatibility drives most of the decisions in this category. A dimmer has to be rated for the load it drives: LED loads draw inrush current that incandescent-rated dimmers handle badly, and a dimmer with too high a minimum load will flicker on a small circuit. Occupancy sensors need the right coverage pattern and mounting height for the room, and dual-technology sensors cost more but trigger less falsely. Everything in a wall box also has to fit the box, which is where device depth and wire count matter.

We stock occupancy and vacancy sensors, daylight sensors, wall switches, dimmers, receptacles, wall plates and the low-voltage and wireless devices that tie them together.
