The load determines the hardware. A pendant needs a canopy and stem sized for the fixture weight and the ceiling condition; a linear fixture on cable needs grippers rated for the span; a pole-mounted area light needs a tenon adapter matching the pole top. Slope and vibration both matter in practice, which is why adjustable and swivel versions exist.
